Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr.’s friendship is truly heartwarming. She made sure not to miss his Broadway debut and expressed her admiration on Instagram. Paltrow, 52, shared a backstage picture of the two at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater and raved about Downey’s performance, calling him a GENIUS on stage.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. made a striking appearance together, with Paltrow dressed in all black and Downey donning black silk pajamas over an orange shirt.
Downey is set to star in “McNeal,” a new one-act play directed by Bartlett Sher and written by Ayad Akhtar. This marks Downey’s Broadway debut, and he expressed the need to live a focused lifestyle to fully commit to the role, especially in the distracting environment of New York City.
The play delves into themes such as artificial intelligence, artistic integrity, and copyright infringement, employing various special effects to propel the storyline forward. Downey, known for his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, found working with the technical aspects of the play to be “strangely natural,” considering his previous experience with special effects in blockbuster movies.
Paltrow, who portrayed Pepper Potts in the MCU films alongside Downey, revealed that working with him was the primary reason she became involved in the original “Iron Man” movie. Despite her reduced on-screen presence due to her focus on her lifestyle brand GOOP, Paltrow expressed that Downey could always convince her to return to acting.
Following Downey’s character’s departure in “Avengers: Endgame,” it was announced that he would be returning to the MCU in a different role as Doctor Doom in the upcoming phases.
