At the recent Emmy Awards red carpet event, Kathy Bates shared that the experience was particularly significant for her. The 76-year-old Oscar winner opened up about her seven-year weight loss journey in a conversation with People, expressing the emotions tied to her transformation. Bates made a stunning appearance at the 2024 awards show in a beautiful purple Armani gown, recounting the joy she felt while shopping for the dress with a friend. In her interview with People in October, she mentioned, “We were in tears because everything I came out in just looked exquisite.”
The American Horror Story actress felt at ease posing for photos on the star-studded red carpet, noting that the images captured were unlike any she had previously taken at similar events. “I just felt so relaxed and ready,” Bates explained. “I knew I felt great, and I looked great.”
Bates revealed that she managed to shed 80 pounds through changes in her diet and lifestyle, and an additional 20 pounds with the assistance of the drug Ozempic. Addressing the speculation about her weight loss, she emphasized, “There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic. But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.”
The actress also clarified any misunderstandings about her potential retirement from acting. “I think people got confused and thought I was going to retire,” she mentioned in an interview with People on Wednesday, October 9, while discussing the success of her new CBS series, Matlock. “What I meant was, how can it get any better? I would love for this to keep going.”
Despite expressing frustration in the past over the limited roles available to women her age, Bates had previously considered semi-retirement. However, the success of her new CBS series, Matlock, changed her perspective. She had initially made headlines by appearing to allude that the show would be her final project, but later clarified that her plans had evolved. Bates shared, “Everything I’ve prayed for, worked for, clawed my way up for, I am suddenly able to be asked to use all of it. And it’s exhausting.”
