Tarek El Moussa expressed his disbelief at the unexpected turn of events as he and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, prepare to appear alongside his former spouse, Christina Hall, in the upcoming show, The Flip Off.
In an exclusive interview with Us at the Us Weekly + Pluto TV Reality Stars of the Year Party, Tarek, 43, shared his astonishment, saying, “Man, I never, ever in my life thought this show would happen. Sometimes I’m sitting there and I’ll have a moment where I look over at Heather, my wife, and I look over to the other side, and there’s my ex-wife, Christina. And I wonder, ‘How did I get here?’”
Heather, 37, added that Tarek often expresses this sentiment on set, explaining, “He’s like, ‘How did I get here? How am I building with my ex-wife and my wife?’”
Despite the unusual dynamics, Tarek emphasized their determination to win the competitions, humorously stating, “We have to.”
Tarek and Heather tied the knot in October 2021, three years after his divorce from Christina, 41. The news of their reunion for The Flip Off came after Tarek and Christina’s popular show, Flip or Flop, concluded in 2022 after 10 seasons.
In The Flip Off, Tarek and Heather will compete against Christina as they undertake opposing house flips. Originally set to appear with her now-estranged husband Josh Hall, Christina will now proceed solo following their ongoing divorce. This decision comes after both Christina and Josh filed for divorce in July after three years of marriage.
Amid her divorce, Christina has remained dedicated to her work projects, including HGTV’s The Flip Off. Alongside Tarek and Heather, the trio has collaborated on several promotional TikTok videos, often poking fun at the apparently awkward dynamics of working with a former partner.
Heather shared her perspective on the experience, saying, “I feel like we’re pretty good at the one-and-done. It’s just been fun. It’s a fun, creative thing that we’re doing, making fun of all the people that make fun of us.”
Off-camera, Tarek and Christina have successfully maintained an amicable coparenting relationship for their daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 7. Christina also shares a son, Hudson, 4, with her ex-husband Ant Anstead, while Tarek and Heather welcomed their son, Tristan, in January 2023.
Reflecting on coparenting, Tarek emphasized its significance, saying, “[It’s] very important. We coparent amazing. Both sides are obsessed with the kids, and they’re thriving right now, which is great.”
